"For Millibar"

Millibar came about from an almost physical need to give form in a certain way, to give life to the intimate relationship I have with the world around me. Recreating a smoky pub at closing time, a bedroom with the bed still warm and unmade, a crowded, untidy kitchen, I want to bring out and express the warm and intense sensations and emotions I feel when I am in these surroundings.

It doesn't matter that I came across these places while travelling through the towns of central Europe or while watching a film or reading a book, because the relationship with this work is visual: a fleeting, furtive glance from the road into the corners of a half lit room that you can't get into (Berlin, The Hague, Brussels) or a glance at a poorly focused photogram of Tavernier or Wilder (Round Midnight, Irma the sweet), or a glance at some lines from Boll (Und sagte einziges wort). It is always the eye that acts as your guide. The eye that if it is not embodied aspires to become so, to lose all physical form so that it can roam free and cancel itself in a sort of "totalizing empathy"with the visible.
